Low energy mode

We're committed to making positive environmental change across the SmartestEnergy Group. Through education and engagement, we're creating an inclusive community of green energy champions, connecting experts from around the world to achieve our ESG goals and support climate change initiatives.

We have set out a sustainability ambition: By 2030, we will be tracking our decarbonisation progress against established targets and be recognised for our positive contributions to the environment and society.

In FY24/25, we conducted a double materiality assessment (DMA) to identify the areas we need to prioritise as a business to deliver the most meaningful change under the core areas of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).  This informed our sustainability strategy, from which we’ve selected three key priorities to narrow our strategic focus.

Climate change

Promoting decarbonisation across our own operations as well as our customers, as we form a key part of our customers’ Scope 3 supply chain-related emissions.

Enabling the low carbon transition

Driving customer adoption of renewable energy supply contracts across  our organisation to reduce our Scope 3 product-related emissions.

Talent attraction, retention and development

Engaging, educating and enthusing stakeholders,  especially employees in our sustainability strategy and its activation.

Social sustainability

Explore our commitment to DEI

Our unique culture is guided by our core values and a drive to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. Our teams are developing ways to deliver impactful and relevant social sustainability initiatives.

Connecting communities

We’ve introduced new charity and volunteering guidelines under our 'Giving something back' initiative to encourage employee activity and support the local communities we serve.

Strengthening knowledge

We have initiated certified carbon literacy training for all employees to enhance the skills of our customer-facing teams and enable them to better support our customers as they journey to net zero.

Empowering future generations

We are supporting STEM education. In collaboration with ELBA, we welcomed students from a local school for an inspiring day focused on STEM careers, showcasing the diverse pathways into the sector.

Unlocking opportunities

We proudly partner with the Women’s Utilities Network. Having hosted panel discussions, ran networking events and sponsored awards, we are empowering women to shape the future of energy.

Creating a supportive space for all

We've established a number of community groups, powered by our people. Active in their conversations and deliberate in their actions, they amplify diverse perspectives across the globe.

Setting a clear direction Sustainability governance is led from the top, set as a standing item in Board meetings and driven by a CEO-led Sustainability Steering Group.
Aligning with standards We are developing a decarbonisation plan with related targets and metrics, and ensuring alignment with evolving EU legislation.
Driving change together Listening to our customers needs, we participated in our first EcoVadis assessment and were awarded 49/100, placing us in the ‘committed’ category.
